Milwaukee-Eight™ History
The Milwaukee-Eight™ may be the latest and greatest engine from Harley-Davidson®, but this engine is only the latest in a long line of revolutionary motors. The first F-Head motors were primitive by modern standards, but served to launch Harley-Davidson®, and inspire the development of the Flathead engine. The Flathead made a name for itself through the 1930's, when the first Knucklehead engine was unveiled. The Panhead, and Shovelhead engines carried the company into the 1980's when the first Evolution engines were unveiled, the descendants of which still power Harley-Davidson® bikes to this day. In 1999, the last big V-Twin engine was released, the Twin Cam, which has served at the heart of the touring family of bikes until now. Now it's time for the next generation of V-Twin: The Milwaukee-Eight™.
Milwaukee-Eight™ Power
When you get out and ride on 2017 touring bike equipped with a Milwaukee-Eight™ Engine you're going to notice a major difference compared to the Twin Cam touring bikes from the past years. The Milwaukee-Eight™ offers a 10% improvement in power, topping out at around 111 ft. lbs on stock models. The increase in power is thanks in part to an improved power/weight ratio, as the Milwaukee-Eight™ weighs in just about the same as the Twin Cam engine, but is built bigger at a whopping 107 cubic inches. If a 107 Milwaukee-Eight™ doesn't sound like enough engine for your touring ride, then take a good look at the 2017 CVO touring bikes, which are equipped with an impressive 114 cu. In. Milwaukee-Eight™ motor. If that STILL doesn't satisfy your need for power, then come in and see our service department and we can set you up with a Screamin' Eagle Stage III upgrade kit and boost your Milwaukee-Eight™ up to a whopping 117 cubic inches!
Milwaukee-Eight™ Performance
The Milwaukee-Eight™ doesn't just provide you with plenty of heavy hitting touring power, this engine is designed to offer outstanding performance as well. The Milwaukee-Eight™ is smoother, cooler, and gets better fuel economy than the Twin Cam engine it replaces, making the Milwaukee Eight the best performing V-twin ever produced by Harley-Davidson®. The precision cooling system in the Milwaukee-Eight™ is built to pull heat directly from the hottest areas of the engine, while the counterbalancer and rubber mounting work together to create a smooth steady ride from the red light to the redline. Finally the combination of precise electronic fuel injection and the Milwaukee-Eight™'s eight valve design allows this motor to get more out of every drop of fuel with more efficient operation, and lower emissions.
